I could use your help on this one. Please pardon the shitty title for this post. Hear me out:

This GIF was a breakthrough. Rather than a piece of animation, it struck me as a 'moving composition'.Turn your brain off and just look at it, maybe squint a little bit and approach it as you would an abstract painting. There are some elements of the composition that are still and ground the space, there is a literal sense of motion- a panning and a twirling, and a split-second neon burst.  I'm fascinated by this idea of a moving composition. Is it a new approach to the creative composition? Does it do all the work for the viewer rendering him or her even more passive to the viewing experience? I dunno, but It excites me.

On that note, it might be helpful for me to put the work in some context. The work is retinal. I'm going for the eyes with the belief that they are (one of many) entry ways to the soul. I am less concerned with meaning than I am feeling, because I think feeling translates across a broader range of experiences. If I can convey a feeling (or many) in a work, it gives the viewer a wider opportunity to incorporate it/them into their own circumstantial history. Whereas I am interested in meaning as something subjective and mutable. Each work continues to develop meaning for me after I make it, and it might even mean something different depending on whom I am talking to or where it is presented. I will tell you this much: the GIF above was inspired by video games.

Here is where I can use your help:
It all seems really great to me, but it's very likely I could be blowing smoke up my own ass. What are your thoughts on a 'moving composition' as a concept and the efficacy of the GIF above?

Let me know...

Please excuse the recent lack of commentary. This and the prior two posts are part of the ongoing process for a project I'm working on to display at a one night group show in Brooklyn (July 10th at Matchless bar in Greenpoint). I am hesitant to write about the project, because I don't want to jinx it. I'm working with a new medium and the results will be beyond my control to a certain degree, so I'm a bit nervous.

I will say that the project involves  Fleur, video games and animation and perhaps sheep and/or fish.

Pray for me and enjoy this GIF. I recommend enjoying it with music playing in the background, it seems to jive with most tempos.  Try this:
